Deputies assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating a crash involving a vehicle versus pedestrian in Seminole.
The crash occurred at the intersection of Seminole Blvd and 54th Ave N at approximately 3:30 PM on Tuesday, January 17, 2017.
According to investigators, 58-year-old James Kellett, was standing in the roadway next to the median, on the north side of the 54th Avenue North and Seminole Boulevard intersection. Kellett lived at the Pines Acres Mobile Home Park at the same intersection.
Investigators say that a 65-year-old woman from Seminole, was driving her 2010 Honda Fit eastbound on 54th Avenue North, when she made a left northbound turn onto Seminole Boulevard, with a green traffic light.
Witnesses say that Kellett left the painted safety zone and began walking eastbound across Seminole Boulevard, into the path of the Honda. Kellett was struck by the Honda in the northbound median lane of Seminole Boulevard on the north side of 54th Avenue North.
Kellett was not utilizing a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash according to investigators.
Paramedics responded and transported Kellett to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators say that driver of the Fit showed no signs of impairment and she appeared to be driving the speed limit.
The investigation continues.
