DUI Manslaughter Charge Filed In Last Month’s Crash in St Petersburg

On Tuesday, January 17, 2017, investigators from the St. Petersburg Police Department arrested 39 year-old Tron Lamar Morgan.

Morgan was the driver of a Chrysler Sebring in a crash that killed one passenger, 35 year-old Carlos Garrison and seriously injured another, 37 year-old Steed C. Garrison.

It crash occurred at about 1:39 AM on December 13, 2016, when Morgan was headed eastbound in the 3800 block of 54th Ave S.  After losing control of the car and leaving the roadway, he struck two palm trees in the median before the car flipped and caught fire.

Bystanders removed Morgan from the burning blue Chrysler Sebring and when officers arrived, they helped push the vehicle and remove Steed Garrison from the car. They were both transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg with serious injuries.

Carlos Garrison died upon impact.

According to an arrest affidavit, Morgan’s blood alcohol concentration was 0.295 at the hospital.  That level is nearly 4 times the legal limit in Florida of 0.08.

Morgan’s driver’s license was suspended three times back in 2007 and was never reinstated. It was revoked on July 5, 2007 for fleeing and eluding police.  Multiple other suspensions were for drugs, failure to appear to court for a traffic case, and failure to pay financial obligations.

He is facing the following charges

  • Driving on suspended/revoked license involving death and serious bodily injury
  • DUI Manslaughter
  • DUI with serious bodily injury

He was released on $20,000 bail on Wednesday, January 18, 2017.
