Lighting strikes and kills a woman on Belleair Beach

A lighting bolts apparently strikes and kills a woman this evening on Belleair Beach

The victim has been identified this evening as 51 year-old Phyllis Kalinowski of Brandon, Florida.  Her identity has been confirmed by Sgt. David DiSano, Public Information Officer for the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

Units from Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue District along with Clearwater Fire Rescue were dispatched at 6:30 this evening to reports of a possible electrocution patient on the beach.  The patient was at the beach with her friend, Dawn Ryskoskis, who discovered her laying on the ground unconscious after they separated during the impending storm.    She was declared dead shortly after arrival by the dispatched rescue workers.

Injuries appear to be consistent with a lightning strike and the official cause of death will be determined by the District 6 Medical Examiner’s Office.
