Several units from Clearwater Fire & Rescue, Clearwater Police, Sunstar Paramedics and Tampa Fire Rescue responded to a crash Saturday night on the Pinellas side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
It occurred at approximately 9:23 PM in the eastbound lanes of the Clearwater approach of the Causeway.
Three patients were trauma alerts with at least two being transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.
Two patients needed to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters.
As of 10:55PM, eastbound lanes of the Courtney Campbell are closed. Westbound is down to one lane. Drivers should avoid the area near Damascus.
The crash resulted in a total of six patients being transported to three different hospitals. At least two of the patients are in critical condition.
It appears from the initial investigation that a minivan was headed westbound and turned left at Damascus Road in front of a car headed eastbound.
Drivers should avoid the area on CCC for several hours.
