Motorcyclist Collides with Bicyclist in Gulfport Early Sunday Morning
Deputies assigned to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team (M.A.I.T.) are investigating a motorcycle versus bicycle crash in Gulfport, Florida.
The crash occurred on 49th Street S. just south of Newton Avenue S at approximately 6:12 a.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2017.
According to investigators, 73-year-old None Yulip of Largo, was driving his 1998 Yamaha Virago 1100 motorcycle southbound on 49th Street South in the curb lane, just south of Newton Avenue South.
Bicyclist, 51-year-old James Perry of St. Petersburg, was crossing 49th Street South, from east to west, when he crossed into the path of Yulip’s motorcycle, causing the collision.
Paramedics responded to the scene and treated Yulip for non-life threatening injuries as a result of the crash. Perry was treated for life-threatening injuries.
Both were transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg and are expected to make full recoveries according to investigators.
Investigators say Perry was not utilizing a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash and showed signs of impairment. Speed was not a factor in the crash.
The investigation continues.
