Motorcyclist Dead After Striking the Back of a Pinellas County School Bus Monday Morning
18 year-old Mitchell Roberge killed in motorcycle crash
Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are on-scene of a crash that killed an 18 year-old motorcyclist from St. Petersburg.
The crash occurred at approximately 6:54 am on Monday, September 18, 2017 at the intersection of 49th Street and 58th Avenue N.
According to investigators, Mitchell Roberge was operating a 2013 Honda motorcycle traveling northbound on 49th Street at a high rate of speed making multiple lane changes. Seven children from Sawgrass Elementary School were being transported in a Pinellas County School bus traveling southbound on 49th Street N.
Investigators said that the driver of the school bus turned east on 58th Avenue N well in advance of the motorcyclist nearing the intersection. Roberge changed lanes again to pass another northbound vehicle and collided with the right rear corner of the school bus on the east side of the intersection.
Roberge, who was wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
No injures were reported on the school bus.
No charges are pending according to investigators.
