Armed Suicidal Man Shot and Killed by Clearwater Police Early Thursday Morning
Clearwater Police are still on-scene of an officer-involved shooting at The Sands of
Clearwater. The apartment complex is located at 2150 Druid Road in Clearwater.
Officers were dispatched to that address at 12:27 a.m. for a report of an armed suicidal man.
Officers came into contact with the 34 year-old man Mitchell Fox, who was armed with a gun.
Police say the Fox refused verbal commands to drop the weapon and was shot multiple times as he threatened an officer on-scene.
Officers immediately began performing life-saving measures on the man.
Fox who was shot later died at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.
Fox lived at the apartment complex with his wife and two children.
The officer who shot him will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
