The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating a crash that killed a bicyclist. The crash occurred in the southbound lanes of 49th Street N at 54th Avenue at approximately 12:41 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019.
A 22 year-old St. Petersburg man was operating his 1998 Toyota Camry southbound on 49th Street N approaching a green traffic signal at 54th Avenue.
Troopers say, a bicyclist, 28 year-old Samatha Bilbrey of Pinellas Park, was traveling westbound in the north crosswalk, against a red crosswalk signal, and entered the path of the Camry.
Bilbrey was struck by the vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver of the car was treated on-scene for minor injuries.
Alcohol does not appear that have been a factor and no charges are expected.
