Haines Road Closed After Couple Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Crash

The St. Petersburg Police are currently on-scene of a crash involving a motorcycle on Haines Road near 19th Street North.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

A 2015 Harley Davidson Motorcycle, driven by 63 year-old David Rankin of St Petersburg, was eastbound on Haines Road with a female passenger, 60 year-old Allegro Rankin.

A 2014 Lexus GS350, driven by 20 year-old Thomas Joseph Zopf II of St Petersburg was southbound on 19th Street North, stopped at a stop sign.

The Lexus failed to yield from the stop sign and struck the motorcycle causing David and Allegro Rankin to be thrown from the motorcycle.

David and Allegro Rankin suffered serious injuries and were transported to Bayfront Health St Petersburg where they are being treated for their injuries.

David and Allegro Rankin were wearing helmets and alcohol did not play a role in this crash according to police.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending.

Haines Road and 19th Street N remained closed for several hours.
