Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team, are investigating a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash in Dunedin.

According to deputies, at about 7:21 p.m. on March 6, 2019, 67-year-old Don Meuse of Palm Harbor was driving his 1998 Toyota Camry southbound on Bayshore Boulevard, approaching the intersection of Cedar Street.

Deputies say, 75-year-old Valarie Elberg of Estevan, Saskatchewan, was standing on the curb, waiting to cross Bayshore Boulevard from west to east, not in a crosswalk, when she stepped off the curb and was struck by Meuse’s vehicle.

Elberg sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased on-scene by deputies.

Meuse did not sustain any injuries.

Impairment and speed do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Next of kin has been notified.

The investigation continues.
