On Sunday, August 25, 2019, just after 6 a.m., deputies from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office were called to Gunn Highway for reports of two individuals deceased in the shoulder of the road.
A passerby noticed a motorcycle on the side of the road, pulled over, saw the two bodies and called 911.
Deputies believe a man and woman were riding the motorcycle southbound on Gunn Highway, when the driver failed to negotiate a curve, hit a road sign and both individuals were thrown from the bike. They were pronounced dead at the scene.
While the investigation is preliminary, deputies do believe speed was a factor. Neither individuals on the motorcycle were wearing helmets.
Deputies are working to identify the deceased and notify next of kin.
As the investigation continues, Gunn Highway will be closed between Racetrack and Copeland Roads.
