Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) are currently investigating the death of a bicyclist following a collision with a vehicle.
The crash occurred on 54th Avenue North just west of 48th Street at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, December 20, 2020.
A vehicle driven by a 65 year-old male from Stratford, Connecticut was traveling eastbound of 54th Avenue, west of 48th Street. The bicyclist, a 51 year-old male from St. Petersburg, was traveling northbound across 54th Avenue N and entered the path of the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle attempted to veer to the right to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful. The vehicle collided with the bicyclist and then struck a mailbox.
The bicyclist was transported to Northside Hospital were he died from his injuries.
