Impaired reckless driver flees traffic stop and crashes into another vehicle at Clearwater intersection

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested 27 year-old Andrew Keeven after he ran from a rollover crash injuring two others in Clearwater.

The incident began just shortly before 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 when a deputy observed Keeven stop his vehicle past the stop bar while leaving the Chevron Gas Station located at 2099 N Highland Avenue. Keeven failed to stop for the deputy who attempted to execute a traffic stop.

Keeven, driving a grey SUV, fled from the attempted traffic stop by driving around a stop school bus which was beginning to extend its stop sign on Highland Avenue just north of Sunset Point Road. Keeven fleeing at high speed ran the red light at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Gulf to Bay Blvd where he collided with a white Toyota sedan at the intersection.

The Mazda overturned after the impact with the Toyota. Keeven was able to exit the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. With the help of the ‘Eagle’ and K-9, Keeven was located inside of a shed behind a home in the 1400 block of Rogers Street.

Once in custody, deputies noted that Keeven exhibited swaying balance with bloodshot and watery eyes along with constricted pupils. According to court records, his speech was described as slurred, mumbled and raspy. He was described as having severe mood swings along with a euphoric attitude with hallucinations.

Keeven’s female passenger in the Mazda was treated along with the male driver of the white Toyota. No life threatening injuries were reported.

Data extracted from the vehicle showed that Keeven was traveling at 92 mph 5 seconds prior the crash and 65 mph one-half second prior to the crash.

Keeven was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and is facing charges of Burglary, DUI with personal injury, DUI with property damage, Driving with suspended license, fleeing and eluding law enforcement at high speed, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, and reckless driving with property damage and injury.
