Motorcyclist dead in fiery crash on 34th Street N in St. Petersburg

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department continue to investigate a crash that killed a motorcyclist in St. Petersburg.

The crash occurred at approximately 4:35 p.m. on Monday, April 5, 2021. Police say that a Toyota Camry driven by 80 year-old Lewis Lemuel Mitten, Jr., of Pinellas Park, was northbound on 34th Street S. Mitten, Jr turned west onto 18th Avenue S. in front of a southbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle, operated by 28 year-old Gregg Anthony Johnson Jr. of St. Petersburg, struck the Camry, then struck another vehicle and caught fire. Johnson Jr. was ejected from the motorcycle. He was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where he died of his injuries. Mitten was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
