3 year-old struck and killed by pickup truck on South Skyway Fishing Pier

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) continue to investigate after the death of a 3 year-old on the South Skyway Fishing Pier. The incident occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021.

According to troopers, the 19 year-old driver of a Chevy S-10 was traveling north on the South Sunshine Skyway Bridge Fishing Pier, located to the west of Interstate 275. The 3 year-old boy was walking in a west direction, behind a properly parked vehicle, attempting to cross the northbound travel lane of the South Sunshine Skyway Bridge Fishing Pier.

The front right of the pickup collided with the child as well as the rear tire. The child died at the scene.
