FHP investigates body found in the water near the Howard Frankland Bridge following earlier crash

On June 6, 2022, shortly before 3 p.m., multiple fire rescue department and the USCG responded to the Howard Frankland Bridge.

A body was located near the span of the bridge. The USCG transported the body to a boat ramp in Hilsborough County.

Following the identification of the remains located in the Bay, Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol were able to link it to a vehicle previously located along the emergency shoulder in the southbound lanes of I-275 near Milepost 35.

The 2003 Lexus sedan was involved in a collision in which the vehicle struck the bridge barrier wall. The case remains under investigation and as of this release it is unclear how the driver entered the water.

The victim is only being identified as a 21 year-old man from Brandon.
