Drivers planning to travel between Pinellas and Hillsborough counties overnight this week should prepare for significant traffic impacts as the Florida Department of Transportation conducts work along the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
All travel lanes on SR 60 (Courtney Campbell Causeway) will close nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Monday, May 11, 2026, and Tuesday, May 12, 2026, weather permitting.
According to FDOT, westbound traffic on the Courtney Campbell Causeway will be detoured using SR 580 (Hillsborough Avenue) and US 19. Drivers may also use southbound I-275 across the Howard Frankland Bridge, take Exit 31 onto Ulmerton Road, turn right onto US 19, and continue north toward SR 60.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured using the Bayside Bridge (CR 611). Motorists will then turn left onto Ulmerton Road, continue east toward the northbound I-275 entrance ramp, and use the Howard Frankland Bridge to reconnect with SR 60.
FDOT stated that advanced warning signs and electronic message boards will be in place to help guide motorists through the detour routes. Drivers are urged to use caution in the area and remain alert for construction crews working overnight.
The temporary nighttime closures are necessary for overhead bridge work associated with the SR 60 pedestrian overpass project in Pinellas County.
Additional project information and traffic alerts are available through FDOT Tampa Bay.
