City Employee Charged After Fatal Garbage Truck Crash Kills Woman in St. Petersburg

A woman was killed Saturday morning after being struck by a City of St. Petersburg garbage truck in an alley near 17 3rd Street North, according to police.

Officers responded to the scene at approximately 6:30 a.m. on May 30, 2026, following reports of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian.

Investigators said a City garbage truck struck a 49-year-old woman who was lying across the alley. The woman suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver of the garbage truck did not stop following the crash. The driver was later identified as Nathan Brown, 51, a City of St. Petersburg employee.

Brown has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death.

The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.

The crash remains under investigation.
