A 27-year-old Sarasota man has died following a serious crash involving a passenger car and a semi-truck on Interstate 75 in Sarasota County Thursday morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 6:53 a.m. on June 18, 2026, near Mile Marker 205 at the Clark Road (State Road 72) interchange.
Troopers said the Sarasota man was driving a 2006 Ford sedan southbound on the Interstate 75 on-ramp from Clark Road when the vehicle experienced a tire blowout. The Ford then entered the direct path of a southbound semi-truck traveling in the right lane of Interstate 75.
The semi-truck, a 2000 Peterbilt tractor-trailer driven by a 48-year-old man from Hialeah, attempted to avoid the collision by moving into the center travel lane but was unable to avoid impact. The front of the semi struck the left side of the Ford.
Following the collision, the semi rotated counterclockwise and overturned in the grassy median of Interstate 75.
Both drivers were transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Ford sedan later succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:30 a.m. The driver of the semi-truck survived the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit is continuing its investigation into the crash.
