Man Arrested on Attempted Second-Degree Murder Charge After Brutal Attack in St. Petersburg Park

A St. Petersburg man has been arrested in connection with a violent attack that left another man critically injured earlier this month.

St. Petersburg Police detectives arrested 49-year-old D’eauary Thurman in connection with the July 6 attack at Bartlett Park.

According to investigators, the incident occurred at approximately 6:30 a.m. on July 6, 2026, at Bartlett Park, 2000 7th Street South. Police say the victim was lying on a picnic table bench when Thurman approached and launched a brutal assault.

Investigators said Thurman repeatedly punched, kicked, and stomped on the victim’s face, causing severe injuries and significant disfigurement to the victim’s head and face.

After the assault, Thurman allegedly searched through the victim’s backpack, stole an item, and fled the area.

The victim suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in critical condition, according to police.

Thurman has been charged with:

  • Attempted Second-Degree Murder
  • Robbery

The investigation remains ongoing.
