Pedestrian Killed, Another Seriously Injured in Hillsborough County Crash

HILLSBOROUGH — A 42-year-old Leesburg man was killed and another pedestrian was seriously injured Friday night after both were struck while attempting to cross Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard in Hillsborough County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 10:50 p.m. on July 31, 2026, on Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard just west of North 68th Street.

According to investigators, a 72-year-old Largo man was driving a Chevy Equinox westbound on Dr Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard when two pedestrians attempted to cross the highway. Both pedestrians entered the path of the SUV and were struck.

The 42-year-old Leesburg man suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The second pedestrian, a 54-year-old Miami man, sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

The 72-year-old driver was not reported injured.

The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
