TARPON SPRINGS — A man was airlifted to a local trauma center Sunday after a shooting in Tarpon Springs left him with life-threatening injuries.
According to the Tarpon Springs Police Department, officers responded at approximately 10:10 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2026, to the 200 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive following reports of a person who had been shot.
When officers arrived, they located the victim, identified as Byronell Arline, suffering from a gunshot wound. Tarpon Springs Fire Rescue responded within minutes and began providing emergency medical care before Arline was flown by helicopter to a local trauma center with life-threatening injuries.
Police said the other individual involved in the incident remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
At this time, no charges have been filed. Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting while working closely with the State Attorney’s Office.
Investigators said the two individuals involved know each other and described the shooting as an isolated incident. Authorities emphasized there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The 200 block of E. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive was temporarily closed to both vehicle and pedestrian traffic during the investigation but has since reopened.
The investigation remains active.
