84-Year-Old Bicyclist Dies Following Crash in St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG — An 84-year-old bicyclist died following a crash involving a vehicle Saturday afternoon in St. Petersburg.

The crash occurred at approximately 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North near 14th Avenue North.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, the 84-year-old man was riding north on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North in the marked bicycle lane as he approached the 1400 block.

A Toyota Corolla was also traveling north on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street North. For an unknown reason, police say the bicyclist lost control of his bicycle, left the marked bicycle lane and struck the front passenger-side corner of the Corolla.

The bicyclist was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Corolla remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

The St. Petersburg Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
