June 26, 2014
Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Sunstar and the South Pasadena Fire Department responded to a crash Wednesday evening at 11:55 pm. The crash occurred at the WalMart Neighborhood Market located at 6850 Gulfport Boulevard South in South Pasadena.
According to deputies, the driver, 32 year-old St. Petersburg resident, Frank J. Lucerno was in the parking lot of the WalMart Store at a stop sign directly facing the front of the store. A witness who was in a vehicle behind Lucerno, told deputies they noticed Lucerno was not moving. The witness blew the horn, flashed the lights and when the vehicle still did not move, drove around it. The witness then parked. As the witness walked towards the store, they saw Lucerno accelerate suddenly and crash directly into the building.
Deputies say the front of Lucerno’s vehicle, all the way to the windshield, went into the structure. Lucerno stepped out of the vehicle uninjured.
The vehicle crashed into the produce section of the store, causing thousands of dollars in damage to the structure and to several cooler units in the store. No persons in the store were injured.
Deputies conducted a DUI investigation and Lucerno was subsequently arrested for DUI and the investigation continues.
