Tarpon Springs Police Department received a 911 call from an individual reporting that they observed human remains in a wooded area inside Anderson Park located just inside the park off of US-19 in the southwest wooded area.
The incident was reported at approximately 6:11 a.m. on Monday, August 19, 2019.
The individual who located the remains is homeless and was looking for a place to setup camp.
Police say, the remains (bones) are in an advanced state of decomposition, but apparent that they are human remains.
The area where the remains are located appears to be that of a transient camp setup in an area that could not be observed from any roadway or walking trail in the park.
Tarpon Springs Police Department Detectives, Tarpon Springs Police Department Forensics, and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Forensics are conducting a death investigation.
At this point in the investigation there is no evidence to suspect foul play.
The cause of death and positive identification (Detectives have information of possible identification) of the remains will be determined by Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office pending an autopsy.
