Set up news alerts ↓Public Safety Radio: quick start
- Open the app and enter your IONTB access code in Settings.
- Enable the system you want, such as Pinellas County, then open Talkgroups.
- Open the gold Favorites panel and review its talkgroups. Eligible accounts may already have recommended Favorites; you can add or remove any of them.
- Use each Favorite’s On/Off switch to choose what plays. Tap ☆ beside another talkgroup to save it as a Favorite. In Talkgroups, open the gold Favorites category and drag ☰ to arrange them.
- Return to Live and tap Go Live. Use the gold Favorites button to quickly turn favorite talkgroups on or off.
These steps describe the current app layout. The web scanner and older app builds may label or arrange controls differently. Available systems and talkgroups depend on account access.
Does adding a favorite mean I am listening to it?
A Favorite is a shortcut. Some accounts start with recommended Favorites, but saving one does not turn it on. Open the gold Favorites panel and use each On/Off switch to choose what plays live. Check the monitored-talkgroups list on Live if you are unsure.
Favorites help you reach individual talkgroups quickly. Quick Sets save a combination of talkgroups you can apply together.
How do I create a Quick Set?
- Turn on the talkgroups you want in your listening mix.
- From Live, use the Quick Sets setup shortcut to jump to Customize Quick Sets in Talkgroups.
- Name a slot and choose Save Current.
- Apply that Quick Set when you want the same combination again.
Check the monitored list before saving. Quick Sets can include talkgroups from multiple categories. Favorites control individual talkgroups; a Quick Set applies a saved combination.
How do I hear something I missed?
Open History, choose a single talkgroup, multiple talkgroups, a category, or a Quick Set, then select a start time. The time controls use Eastern time.
- Catch Up & Hold: replay the selected traffic, then continue live with that selection.
- Catch Up & Return Live: replay the selection, then return to your normal live monitoring.
- Return to Normal Live: leave the History selection and resume your usual monitoring.
Previous, Play/Pause, and Next control History playback. Available recordings depend on the service’s retention and your account access.
What do Hold, Avoid, and Clear Queue do?
- Hold focuses live listening on the current talkgroup until released.
- Avoid turns off the current talkgroup and skips its call.
- Clear Queue discards waiting playback and waits for newly arriving calls. Use History if you want to revisit skipped traffic.
Why is the scanner quiet or reconnecting?
First check that Live is running, the intended talkgroups are On, and Hold is not limiting you to one talkgroup. Check device volume and the Bluetooth or vehicle audio destination. A quiet talkgroup may simply have no traffic.
If Audio Reconnecting remains after connectivity returns, bring the app forward. If necessary, use Stop Live and Go Live. Note the time so you can use History to hear missed traffic.
For a connection-limit message, stop listening or sign out on another device using the same account. If talkgroups are missing, check the enabled system, clear search filters, and confirm your access.
How is this different from a conventional scanner feed?
A conventional scanning receiver follows one transmission at a time and can miss simultaneous traffic on other channels. The IONTB system records supported radio traffic and lets you select the talkgroups you want to hear and replay available recordings.
When several selected talkgroups are busy, calls can queue for playback. The Now Playing panel shows how many calls remain and their estimated listening time before you catch up. New calls may increase both numbers. Clear Queue discards waiting calls and returns you to newly arriving traffic; History lets you revisit earlier recordings.
How do emergency tone alerts work?
In Settings → Emergency tone alerts, choose separately whether to show an in-app alert, hear one announcement, receive a background notification, and mute repeating tone clips while keeping voice traffic. Availability depends on your account and device notification settings. An in-app alert can appear even when you were not monitoring that police talkgroup.
Tap Listen Live to follow the alert talkgroup. Back 1 minute moves replay earlier; tap again to go farther back. Emergency channel · live returns to new calls on that channel. Exit emergency · play waiting calls returns to your normal channels and plays their backlog. Exit emergency · return to my channels live discards the backlog and resumes those channels live. Hide alert hides this event’s banner without changing playback or disabling future alerts.
In History, Police emergency-tone events shows the 10 newest events. Swipe left and tap Remove to hide an event on this device.
Incident Alerts: quick start
- Open 911.iontb.com or the Incident Alerts app. Calls, Map, and History provide the main incident views.
- Sign in with your dashboard username and password for account features. If invited to a trial, open the email link and choose your password first.
- On each phone or tablet that should receive alerts, open Alerts and enable notifications. Accept the device’s notification permission prompt.
- Choose Add Rule, give it a recognizable name, and select the incidents, units, keywords, or area you want.
- Choose the available delivery method and app notification sound. Save, then use the rule’s Test section to check delivery.
How do I find crashes today or search an address?
Open History, set the date range to today, and choose the relevant collision/crash call type. Leave location blank to search all locations. Add a street or address to narrow the results.
Expand additional filters when you need unit or trauma criteria, then press Search. Open a result to view incident and unit details. Incident History searches calls; Notification History shows alerts sent to your account.
How do I choose the sound for a rule?
Use the rule’s app notification sound selection for Apple and Android delivery. Sound names are shared across platforms; available playback depends on your installed app build and device settings.
Pushover Sound and Pushover priority are separate settings for accounts with Pushover access. Changing those settings does not select the native app sound. Pushover time-based priority applies to Pushover delivery.
How do I create a weather rule?
In Alerts, add a weather rule, select the geographic area, and choose the weather event types you want. For state/county selection, choose the state first, then the county. Verify the displayed area before saving.
Select the available delivery methods and sound, save, then send a weather test. Weather access permits you to create rules; it does not mean every weather warning is automatically enabled for your account.
My test or alert did not arrive. What should I check?
- Confirm that you are signed in to the intended account and notifications are enabled on this device.
- Check the rule is enabled, saved, and set to an available delivery method.
- Check notification permissions, volume, silent settings, and Focus/Do Not Disturb on the device.
- On Android, check the app’s notification categories/channels and their sound settings.
- Run a test and check Notification History. A “sent” entry means Apple or Google accepted it; it does not confirm the phone displayed it.
After deleting and reinstalling the app, sign in and enable notifications again. If your account shows an unexpected old device registration, contact support.
Where can I see my recent notifications?
Open Alerts → Notification History. Expand the section to review the last three days, filter unread entries, or mark all read. Expired entries stop contributing to unread counts.
Saved alert text can remain available even when its graphic has expired. Phone notification presentation and icon badges also depend on device settings; Android launchers vary in whether they show a dot or a number.
How does the seven-day email trial work?
Open your private invitation link, choose and confirm your password, then sign in using your email address. No temporary password is needed for this trial invitation.
Your seven days begin when you complete password setup. The setup link itself expires after seven days. The trial includes Apple, Android, and weather-alert access and ends automatically. There is no automatic charge. View plans to continue access.
What if I forgot my dashboard password?
Contact IONTB using the support link below with the email associated with your account. A trial invitation is for new trial setup; it does not replace password recovery for an existing account. Never post passwords or private invite links publicly.
Why does the app return to Calls after being in the background?
On an ordinary return from the background, the native app returns to Calls, closes open map overlays, and refreshes active calls. Opening a notification should take you to that notification’s destination.
IONTB News: read articles and choose alerts
- Download IONTB News on iPhone, iPad, or Android and open Latest to browse new headlines. Tap a headline to read the full article.
- Use Search to find older stories. Save an article to keep its headline handy in Saved, or share its link. Current articles and full pages need an internet connection.
- Open Alerts and choose All news alerts, Breaking news only, or Off. Allow notifications when prompted. Use the available sound and test controls to check this device. On Android, also check the app’s notification categories and sound settings in system Settings.
Reading IONTB News does not require a scanner access code or Incident Alerts account. Saved headlines remain on your device; full articles open the IONTB website in the app.
What counts as breaking news?
IONTB editors mark a newly published story as Breaking news. Readers who choose Breaking news only receive alerts for those marked stories; readers who choose All news alerts receive eligible new article alerts as well. Opening an alert takes you to its story. Device notification permissions, Focus settings, and connectivity affect delivery.
Can I post an article from the News app?
The News app is for reading and sharing. IONTB editors publish articles through the website’s WordPress editor. To send IONTB a tip or photos, use the Media Upload page.
For IONTB editors: how do article and breaking alerts work?
In WordPress, create a new Post. In the IONTB News app alert box, select Breaking news before publishing if it is a breaking story, or select Do not send a notification if the article should publish quietly. Publish the post to make it appear in Latest. When article alerts are enabled, an eligible new post is queued for an app notification; ordinary edits do not resend one. The editor box shows the delivery status.
Alert matching: examples you can use
Use these examples in a rule’s trigger field. Start narrowly, save the rule, and use the available preview/test controls to check it. A test checks delivery; it does not prove that a future incident will match your criteria.
| What you want | Example | How it matches |
|---|---|---|
| Either of two units | E31, R62 | Comma-separated alternatives use OR. |
| A unit and a call type | UNIT:E31 & TYPE:*COLLISION* | Both terms must match the same incident. |
| Units starting with E | UNIT:E* | The asterisk matches zero or more characters. |
| One variable character | UNIT:E?1 | The question mark matches exactly one character. |
| A station range | STATION:4-9 | Matches mapped stations in the inclusive range. |
| A grid range | GRID:121-123 | Includes the range and its lettered subdivisions. |
| An address range | ADDRESS:12100-12300 94TH WAY | Matches that inclusive house-number range on the named street. |
| A keyword | TEXT:*STRUCTURE FIRE* | Matches the phrase in the searchable incident text. |
Use Trauma: Yes or No where offered in the rule builder. Station matching follows the dashboard’s unit-to-station assignments. Broad unit wildcards exclude certain numeric Sunstar units; use an exact expression such as UNIT:354 when you specifically want that unit.
