According to Sgt. Adam Geissenberger of the Pinellas Park Police Department, they received a 911 call shortly after 1 PM in reference to a robbery at the Aldi grocery store located at 6700 66th Street N. It was relayed to the dispatchers that the suspect was armed with a handgun and that at least one shot was fired.
Officers arrived on the scene of the incident within several minutes and took Mills into custody.
According to the press release, Mills entered the Aldi store and selected an item from the shelf. He stood in line for several minutes until it was his turn to check out. As the clerk started to wait on him, he came around the line to where the cashier was positioned and produced a handgun and demanded money from the cash drawer.
Employees and customers observed what was taking place and physically engaged Mills. During the struggle to subdue him, the firearm fell from his hands. The firearm discharged when another customer attempted to retrieve the handgun to keep it from him. No one was hit or injured in during the incident.
