Caleb J. Fitzgerald, age 18 of Gulfport, has been arrested in Pinellas County for the felony charge of Leaving the Scene of a Crash involving a Death and cited for the traffic infraction of Failure to Use Due Care – Special Hazards.

Pedestrian Dies in Crash Last Night on 66th Street and 42nd Ave

About 10:30pm on Sunday evening crews were called to the reports of a vehicle crash on 66th Street near 42nd Avenue.

Caleb J. Fitzgerald, age 18 of Gulfport, was driving a 2001 Honda Civic was traveling northbound in the inside lane of 66th Street approaching 42nd Avenue North.
Vicki S. Miller, age 51 of Clearwater, was driving a 2006 Ford F150 traveling northbound on 66th Street in the center lane.

A pedestrian was crossing 66th Street at 42nd Avenue North, west to east and entered the northbound inside lane, pushing a small shopping cart and traveled into the path of Fitzgerald.

As a result, the front right of the Honda collided with the pedestrian which propelled her into the center lane and was then struck by the Ford F150. The pedestrian came to rest in the center lane of 66th Street north of 42nd Avenue North. Both vehicles stopped in the parking lot of 4293 66th Street North.

The pedestrian sustained fatal injuries and expired at the scene of the crash.

She has been identified as Ruby Jean Butler, age 64, of Tulsa, OK.
