St. Petersburg Police arrested two men in connection with a Feb. 11 shooting that left an 18-year-old man hospitalized.
Charles Hinton, 18, and Christopher Tonsel, 22, were arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder and robbery with a deadly weapon. The charges stem from a shooting reported shortly before 5 p.m. at 731 15th St. S.
According to investigators, the victim and another man met Hinton and Tonsel in the parking lot of the Citrus Grove Apartments in the 700 block of 15th Street South. The victim was seated in the front passenger seat of a sedan.
Police said Hinton and Tonsel entered the back seat of the vehicle. A short time later, Hinton pulled out a gun and fired, striking the victim in the back of the neck.
Hinton and Tonsel then exited the vehicle and fled on foot with the driver’s backpack. The driver drove approximately one block to a convenience store in the 900 block of 16th Street South to seek help.
The victim was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
