Bicyclist critically injured in crash along 8th Avenue SW in Largo

Officers from the Largo Police Department and crews from Largo Fire Rescue responded to reports of a crash on 8th Avenue SW near the Pinellas Trail. The call for service was at approximately 11:59 a.m. on Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 8th Avenue SW and Park View Lane

The initial investigation has yielded information that the bicyclist failed to stop for the eastbound traffic and entered the roadway.  A Toyota Highlander then struck the bicyclist as he was crossing the road.

The adult male bicyclist was transported to Largo Medical Center Hospital with life threatening injuries.

Investigators say that the driver of the Toyota sustained no injuries and alcohol is not a factor in the crash.

The Largo Police Department’s Traffic Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation.  The roadway reopened at approximately 3 p.m.
