Bicyclist critically injured in St. Petersburg crash

The St. Petersburg Police Department continues to investigate a crash that left a bicyclist with life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred at approximately 6:28 p.m. on Tuesday, December 20th, 2022. Investigators say that a driver was operating a silver 2006 Toyota Solara northbound on 39th Street North, approaching 38th Avenue North.

A bicyclist, 59 year-old Jeffrey Alexander Stowe of St. Petersburg was traveling east 
along 38th Avenue North in the curb lane. 

The driver of the Solara stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of 38th Avenue North and 39th Street North, before turning left onto 38th Avenue North. As the driver was making the left-hand turn, Stowe collided with the side of the vehicle causing him to fall of the bicycle. 

Stowe was transported to Bayfront Health with life-threatening injuries. 

The driver remained on the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing.
