Bicyclist seriously injured in St. Petersburg crash

Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department are investigating a crash involving a bicyclist that seriously injured a 56 year-old woman.

The crash occurred on Saturday, May 14, 2022 shortly before 2 p.m. at 22nd Avenue N and the Pinellas Trail.

Investigators say that a driver was operating a gray 2010 Nissan Rouge eastbound on 22nd Avenue South. A 56 year old woman on a bicycle was crossing 22nd Ave. North at the Pinellas Trail from north to south. She entered the roadway and crashed into the front passenger side fender of the Rogue as it passed by, according to investigators.

The bicyclist was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she is being treated for life threatening injuries. Next of kin has not been located so her name will not be released at this time.

The driver of the Nissan stayed at the scene and continues to cooperate with the investigation.
