Boater flees after drops off three injured passengers after striking seawall near Albert Whitted Airport

St. Petersburg Police arrested 50 year-old Keith Wooley of St. Petersburg following a boat crash that occurred shortly before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, February 23, 2020.

Crews from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue and St. Petersburg Police were dispatched to reports of injured people at the end of the runway at the Albert Whitted Airport.

Upon arrival, crews needed to communicate with airport security to ensure that no incoming aircraft were operating nearby as they approached three injured individuals. None of the injuries appeared life threatening.

Wooley, the operator of the boat, left the injured passengers at the airport without rendering aid or alerting police or fire/rescue.

Wooley was located by an officer from the St. Petersburg Police Department at the boat ramp located at 3800 6th Street S where he was seen walking to his vehicle.

He is facing charges of boating under the influence with injuries and leaving the scene of a crash with injures.

The investigation continues.
