Body recovered following apparent drowning in Feather Sound pond

The St. Petersburg Police Department is currently investigating the death after a body was recovered from a pond in the Feather Sound area.

The call for service came in at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, May 9, 2020 regarding a person in the pond behind 2695 Ulmerton Road in St. Petersburg.

The initial report indicated that a motorist noticed a person in the pond that appeared to be in distress. The witness, after turning around to the pond, no longer saw the individual. Once crews from St. Petersburg Police and St. Petersburg Fire Rescue arrived, they were made aware of personal items located both on the shoreline and in the water.

The dive team arrived from St. Petersburg Fire Rescue who began dive operations. With two divers in the water, the body of what appeared to be an adult male was located at approximately 5:30 p.m.

St. Petersburg crews were assisted by patrol units from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and their helicopter.

The circumstances surrounding the death remain under investigation.
