Brush fire burning in the Brooker Creek Preserve

Firefighters from East Lake Fire Rescue, Oldsmar Fire, Dunedin Fire, Palm Harbor Fire along with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and the Department of Forestry responded to a brush fire in the Brooker Creek
Preserves at approximately 5 p.m. on Monday, August 19, 2020.

The brush fire is estimated to be 50 acres in size.

Units are currently on scene and will be conducting a back burn (a method used to fight fires with fire) on a total of 200 acres until around midnight tonight.

According to firefighters, there is no damage or threat to any structures and no injuries have been reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Residents in the surrounding areas will continue to smell smoke which could linger for the next couple of days.

East Lake Fire Rescue asks residents to not be alarmed by the smoke smell but do call 911 if you see fire.
