Officers from the St. Petersburg Police Department responded to reports of a vehicle crash shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Monday, May 16, 2022.
Officers and fire rescue personnel located an adult male pedestrian down in the roadway in the area of 34th Street N and 32nd Avenue. Prior to arrival, officers were informed that the driver of the involved vehicle ran from the scene. The involved vehicle was a white Ford Mustang that was traveling northbound on 34th Street North in the median lane.
A pedestrian, 52 year-old Alija Boskovic, was crossing 34th Street North and he entered the path of the Mustang.

The driver, 27 year-old Randy Peterson Jr., initially fled from the scene but was later arrested. Officers located Peterson being detained by multiple bystanders.
Boskovic died at the scene

Peterson was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
During the investigation, traffic investigators determined Peterson was driving recklessly, changing lanes at a high rate of speed in moderate traffic before the crash occurred.
This remains an active investigation.
Both directions of 34th Street N. were shut down between 30-35th Avenues until approximately 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
