Employee shoots customer at Clearwater Dunkin’ Donuts after an altercation

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue personnel responded to a shooting shortly after 6 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2023.

It occurred in the parking lot of Dunkin’ Donuts, 2551 Gulf-to-Bay Blvd. A verbal confrontation between an employee and a customer started inside the store and carried into the parking lot, where it became physical.

Khalil Abdul Shakur Shaheed, age 22, an employee of Dunkin’ Donuts became involved in an argument with a customer, a 38-year-old Clearwater man who was trying to buy ice cream for his girlfriend and two children. As the victim and his family departed via the front door of the business, the suspect left out the back door and confronted the victim in the parking lot, where the argument continued.

Shaheed pulled a gun out of his waistband and fired three times, hitting the victim twice in the legs. The victim is in serious but stable condition at the hospital.

The shooter, Khalil Abdul Shakur Shaheed, age 22 of St. Petersburg was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and carrying a concealed firearm. He was booked in to the Pinellas County Jail on Monday night.
