Updated: May 30, 2018 – 12:20 p.m.

Clearwater Police continue to investigate an officer-involved crash with injuries at Rosery Road and Clearwater-Largo Road.  The crash occurred at approximately 9:52 p.m on Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

The Largo Police Department is conducting the crash investigation while the Clearwater Police Department is investigating the circumstances that led up to the crash.

This all began after a Clearwater officer observed a stolen vehicle traveling south on South Missouri Avenue approaching the Clearwater Largo border. During an attempted traffic stop, the vehicle then fled the scene.

Shortly thereafter, K9 Officer Jesse Myers was responding to assist when the crash occurred at Rosery Road and Clearwater-Largo Road.

The car involved in the collision was not related to the stolen vehicle investigation.

Myers, who has worked for the police department since 2007, was westbound on
Rosery Road at the time of the crash. The other vehicle, a 2015 Chevrolet
Cruise, was southbound and being driven by 20 year-old Zoe Applegate.

Zoe Applegate posted the following on social media.

Myers was treated and later released from Morton Plant Hospital. His K9, Axe, was checked out and cleared at a local animal hospital.  Applegate and her passenger in the Chevy Cruise were in stable condition this morning at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg.

Once the investigations are complete, an internal review of the circumstances will be conducted by Clearwater Police Department’s command staff members.

“We are conducting an administrative investigation into the actions of our officers to determine if they complied with policy in their attempts to stop the stolen vehicle,” said Deputy Chief Eric Gandy.

Multiple witnesses reported at least three law enforcement vehicle in pursuit of the dark colored SUV.
