CLEARWATER — Clearwater Police continue to investigate a stabbing incident that left a police officer and a 22-year-old woman injured Tuesday evening.
Officers responded just before 9:00 p.m. to a disturbance call at 1301 Wood Drive. Upon arrival, they encountered multiple individuals involved in an argument. As officers attempted to de-escalate the situation, the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Shakenya Mone’ Batson, charged at a 22-year-old woman and began stabbing her. The arrest affidavit estimated that the victim suffered approximately 17 stab wounds.

While officers intervened to separate the two, Officer Samantha Negron sustained a laceration on her arm and a puncture mark in the ankle area of her uniform.
The 22-year-old victim was transported to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital, where she remains in serious condition. Police said she had come to the residence to speak with her former girlfriend, who is Batson’s sister.
Officer Negron was taken to Morton Plant Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and later released. She has been with the Clearwater Police Department since 2022.
Batson was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer.
Police said there is no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation remains active.
