Construction Worker Killed Working in Trench for Clearwater Stormwater Project

Clearwater Fire and Rescue currently on-scene of a fatal trench accident.

Clearwater Fire Department responded to a trench rescue call at approximately 1 p.m. today in the 1400 block of Jeffords Street.

Police say the worker was male in his twenties, working below grade in a trench when a large steel plate used for stabilizing the trench struck and crushed him.

The man died at the scene.

There were no other injuries.

This is a city of Clearwater stormwater project. Keystone Excavators Inc. is the city’s contractor for the project.

The investigation continues.
