Crash in St. Petersburg Claims the Life of Riverview Woman

The St. Petersburg Police Department continues to investigate a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 5:33 p.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2019.

The crash occurred at 110th Avenue North and MLK Street North in St. Petersburg.

Investigators report that 43 year-old Joseph Cavanaugh of Riverview was driving a 2012 Nissan Maxima southbound on MLK Street. His wife, 59 year-old Cynthia Cavanaugh, was a passenger in the Maxima.

Investigators say that Cavanaugh turned left onto 110th Avenue North in front of a northbound Infiniti G 35, driven by a 31 year-old woman.

The Infiniti hit the passenger side of the Nissan. As a result of the collision, the Nissan was directed into a drainage ditch, flipped, and partially submerged.

Cynthia Cavanaugh was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg where she died of her injuries.

Her husband, Joseph, and the other driver were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to investigators, impairment does not appear to have been a factor in the crash.
