Damage to I-175 Overpass Closes Roadway in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg Police and St. Petersburg Fire Rescue are currently on-scene of a incident that damaged the I-175 overpass over 6th Street South.

The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Monday, September 16, 2019.

The eastbound lanes of traffic on I-175 have been closed due to structural damage to the overpass. Due to the incident, 6th Street South has been closed in both directions due to debris in the roadway.

According to St. Petersburg Police, a large truck was traveling on 6th Street that struck the I-175 overpass causing concrete to fall.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) must check the integrity of the overpass.  The roads will remain closed until the inspection is complete. 

6th Street South will remain closed in both directions and all eastbound lanes of I-175 will also remain closed at the 6th Street South exit.
