Death Investigation Underway at McDonald’s Restaurant in Clearwater Following Altercation

The Clearwater Police Department is currently investigating a death following an incident at the McDonald’s restaurant located at 539 S Missouri Avenue in Clearwater.

The initial incident occurred at about 6:12 p.m. One witness reported that an adult male appeared to be “high on drugs.” His bizarre behavior led to a scuffle in the restaurant.

Police responded to reports of a male subject, who was described as being violent and under the influence of an unknown substance, was being physically restrained by a restaurant employee because he attempted to jump over and push his way behind the front counter.

At approximately 6:17 p.m., officers arrived on the scene and quickly secured the combative subject.

Due to the subject’s erratic behavior, Emergency Medical Services also responded.  According to police, while the subject was being medically evaluated, he became unresponsive and was transported to Morton Plant Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

The man has been identified as 52 year-old Tyrone S. Martin, a transient from Clearwater. An autopsy was performed on Tuesday by the medical examiner’s office; results are pending based on toxicology reports. The investigation continues.
