Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff Office were dispatched to reports of a stabbing at the Steeplechase Townhomes, 121 Steeplechase Lane, off of Tampa Road in Palm Harbor.
The incident took place shortly before 9 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2022.
According to detectives, deputies located a female with multiple stab wounds and learned a second female, identified as 41-year-old Cristina Lopez-Mera, was inside the residence also suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Detectives say both victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Lopez-Mera’s son, 16-year-old Angelo Scalzo.
Multiple deputies, K-9 officers, and the PCSO “Eagle” searched for the Scalzo for nearly an hour before a deputy was able to locate the suspect at the Cloverplace Condominium neighborhood just east of the crime scenes.
Scalzo was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged with two counts of Attempted First Degree Murder.
