Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, assigned to the Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) are investigating a three vehicle deputy involved crash in Palm Harbor.

The crash occurred at about 1:14 p.m. on Monday, April 1, 2019 in the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 19 North, just south of Tampa Road in Palm Harbor.

According to investigators, Deputy Matthew Schultheis, age 28, was driving his fully marked 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe, northbound on U.S. Highway 19 North in the curb lane when he crashed into the rear end of a 2016 Toyota Camry being operated by 42 year-old Angela Cappiello of New Port Richey.

The force of the impact pushed Cappiello’s Toyota into the rear of a 2005 FordĀ
Focus being driven by 40-year-old Erin Mann of Tarpon Springs.

Investigators say Cappiello and Mann were both stopped in traffic just south of Tampa Road at the time of the crash.

Cappiello was transported to Mease Countryside hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Mann was transported to Advent Health North Pinellas Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators say that neither speed nor impairment appear to be factors in the crash.
