Driver charged with DUI with death after striking and killing a pedestrian in Seminole

Deputies from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office arrested the driver involved in a fatal crash. The crash occurred at approximately 11:28 p.m. on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 5316 Seminole Boulevard.

The crash claimed the life of 44 year-old Nole Karcher.

According to investigators, Karcher was walking his Trek bicycle from east to west across Seminole Boulevard, not in a designated crosswalk. 46-year-old Brian Thomas of Kenneth City, was driving southbound, in a 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander, on Seminole Boulevard and struck Karcher. Karcher was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Investigators say Thomas showed signs of impairment and a DUI Investigation was conducted. Deputies arrested Thomas and transported him to the Pinellas County Jail, charging him with DUI with death and possession of clonazepam.

According to investigators, speed and impairment appear to be factors in the crash.

Records indicate that Thomas has no previous arrests in Pinellas County.
