According to investigators, on August 16, 2018 at approximately 10:55 a.m., Deputies Howard Miller and Kent Snavely were on duty and had completed a traffic stop in the eastbound curb lane on Bryan Dairy Road at Concept Boulevard.

Deputy Snavely’s vehicle was parked directly behind Deputy Miller’s vehicle.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, both fully marked agency vehicles had their emergency lights activated.

According to investigators, Deputy Miller was sitting inside his vehicle, completing paperwork from the traffic stop and Deputy Snavely was standing outside of Deputy Miller’s vehicle at the passenger side door.

Investigators say, 47-year-old Richard Hain Jr., was driving his 2000 Mercury Mountaineer, eastbound on Bryan Dairy Road, when he crashed into the back of Deputy Snavely’s vehicle.

The impact pushed Deputy Snavely’s vehicle into the rear of Deputy Miller’s vehicle.

Deputy Snavely was not injured.

Deputy Miller was transported by another deputy to a local facility with minor injuries.

Hain was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Hain was issued a citation for careless driving and for not wearing a seatbelt.

The investigation continues.
