Driver crashes pickup truck into pond at Pinellas Criminal Courts Complex

Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol are investigating after a driver drove his vehicle into a pond.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 at the Pinellas County Courthouse located at 14250 49th Street N.

The 64 year-old male driver of a pickup truck was traveling southbound in the parking lot of 14250 49th Street North.

Troopers say that while entering a parking space, the driver’s boot became entangled with the accelerator pedal. As a result, the truck rapidly accelerated south, crossed over the raised concrete curb and sidewalk, and collided with a fence bordering an adjacent retention pond.

The truck continued south, vaulting into the retention pond and becoming fully submerged.

The driver, with assistance from Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office personnel, was able to exit the vehicle and pond safely.
