Driver dead after Monday afternoon’s crash in St. Petersburg

St. Petersburg Police continue to investigate a fatality crash that occurred at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019.  The vehicle crash occurred in the 5900 block of Central Avenue.

Investigators say that Jonathon M. Benner was driving a 2006 Dodge pickup truck at a high rate of speed while weaving through westbound traffic on Central Avenue

He clipped the front end of another vehicle and shortly afterwards, his truck left the roadway and hit a Duke Energy pole on the North side of the street.

Benner was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, in critical condition.  On Thursday afternoon, the St. Petersburg Police department confirmed with the medical examiner that Jonathon Benner passed away on Wednesday, December 18th.
