Two pedestrians struck by a vehicle on Gulf to Bay Blvd in Clearwater, one dead

Clearwater Police and Clearwater Fire & Rescue are on scene of a crash involving two pedestrians on Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard at Fernwood Avenue, west of Old Coachman Road.

The call came in just after 7 this morning. One adult male was taken to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg; another adult male was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital where he died from his injuries.

The pedestrian taken to Mease Countryside Hospital was identified as 80 year-old Ernest LeBlanc. His son, 48 year-old Barry LeBlanc, remains in critical condition at Bayfront.

The two family members resided at a nearby mobile home park.

Police say that they were crossing Gulf-to-Bay from north to south west of Fernwood Avenue and not in a crosswalk.

The vehicle that struck them, a 1996 GMC Suburban, was headed east. The 34 year-old male driver was not injured.

Eastbound lanes of Gulf-to-Bay were shut down at Belcher Road. All lanes reopened at approximately 11:15 a.m.
